Well winter is well and truly here, if today is anything to go by. The sun was out, by it was so ridiculously cold that even looking outside gave me a chill. Determined to make the most of a day off, I tried to get out for a skate this afternoon. As hard as I tried to soldier on and just skate it off, the cold kept snapping at every inch of my body and now I pretty much feel tired, cold and bitter at the greatness of Summer that once sang with us and danced with us as we laughed in it’s warmth. It was a time where we could just waste all afternoon doing frontside slashes and not worry about the sun disappearing at 4 in the afternoon. Winter is a desperate wasteland for skateboarders, where we go into hibernation and pass time trying to be normal people until the Summer comes around again, either that or we file out into the cold one by one and stand around at wet skateparks attempting to have a fun time, getting colder and colder as we wait for our turn to drop in, only to slam on the first trick and then sulk in the corner of the park until the pain goes away.

But what do I know – people will always find ways to get out for a skate in the cold, and today was no exception. Here are some photos.

Despite being covered in leaves and sand (dunno where the sand came from, as far as I know there are no beaches near Coventry), Holbrooks bowls still proved to be a good laugh. Swampy took the funniest/maddest slam on the Loveseat made of leaves (aka the “Leafseat”) – lesson learnt, don’t try and skate a wet bowl full of leaves. Having said that the leaves broke his fall so he didn’t come out of it too bad. Until next time – don’t let the winter keep you down, get out and skate whenever you can!
