Ben Sanderson is a graduate from University College Falmouth with a BA Hons in Fine Art, recently returning back to Coventry working as an artist in residence at Southam College.
Bens sculptures and paintings evolve from drawings and sketches. Materials such as cardboard, wood, paper, and old curtain fabric are the starting point for many of his pieces. The more raw the better.
Texture and pattern derived from these raw materials creates the base for his mythicaly flavoured work to evolve which is then covered or extended. Ben takes inspiration from history, culture and evolution as a background to his work. Hes also inspired quite often from places he has been or would like to be. Ink is used to add intricate elements to both paintings and sculptures taking details from different types of species and architecture.
Bens work is being exhibited now in Browns, Coventry. You really should see these beautiful paintings and sculptures up close and personal to appreciate the rawness, intricate detailing and smattering of glamour these pieces are soaked with. And yes that is the old signage from the Lower Precinct Browns. Go view now.
