This is just a quick post, but I thought it needed sharing

Some of you maybe aware of the Riots and demonstrations that are currently going in Egypt. And to most people of coventry this will have no relevance, and covert normally shy’s away from Politics because, lets be honest, it has no place here.

But today I’ve been happily chatting to Coventry’s Hector Osbert, he works with the bit phalanx label, and is the master of long complex minimalist soundscapes.  Mr Osbert currently lives in Egypt, and for the past couple of days we have been discussing collaborating on a Suit Corps track that will feature a Egyptian french MC and the guitar work of Hector Osbert . This project is very exciting and it  came off the back of our joint appreciation of La Femme.

Hectors been  keeping all of his friends up to speed on the riots in Egypt but for those of you who don’t know what’s going on here’s a quote from USA today

“Thousands of riot police are out in force today in Cairo to back up government warnings that it will not tolerate a second day of demonstrations called by protesters.

At least four people have died in clashes since Tuesday morning, including one police officer, the Associated Press reports.

The government’s get-tough attitude comes a day after tens of thousands of Egyptians turned out in unprecedented demonstrations demanding the ouster of President Hosni Mubarak, who has ruled the country for three decades.

The anti-government protesters have been inspired by a popular uprising earlier this month in Tunisia that drove that country’s president out of office.

You can follow events on the ground on Twitter at #jan25and on Facebook.

The protesters, using Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites to organize their demonstrations, have called for a fresh wave of protests today. Twitter confirms, however, that its service has been blocked in Egypt since Tuesday evening.

Security forces say they have already detained about 200 protesters early today in Cairo and elsewhere in the country.”

Whats more worrying for me  is that Mr Osbert, aka Bonso wrokks,  put up the following status and hour ago  and his last comment was 56 minutes ago before, I’m assuming, facebook was shut down.

This isn’t good,  I’ll post a comment as soon as I hear anything from him. I’m sure he is ok, but it just shows you that even in the 21st century governments will stop communication between the masses, if the masses don’t do what they want.

Peace
